Khao Sok National Park

We often get asked what you can do in Khao Lak.

The answer is that there are two things you should do while you’re here. One thing is to see the Similan Islands National Park, the other is to see Khao Sok National Park. Khao Sok is the biggest National Park of southern Thailand, second largest rain forest and one of the oldest in the world.

There is plenty of wildlife in the National Park. There are also tigers in the park, but you will never get close enough to see them (…and maybe you don’t want to).

Also “Rafflesia arnoldii” grows here. The largest flower in the world  which can grow to 3 feet (90 centimeters) across and weigh up to 24 pounds (11 kilos) !

The entry to the nationalpark is about 60 km from Khao Lak. There are a number of operators arranging one- and two day trips to Khao Sok. It is also ossible to arrange accommodation at the National Park entry for those of you who wants to stay longer.

Prices are still not available for the 2011-2012 season, but a day trip to Khao Sok will be about 4500 Baht. An overnight trip will cost about 8500 Baht.

If you prefer to travel by your self, a bus ticket to Khao Sok costs 100 Baht. A taxi to Khao Sok is about 1000 Baht, one way. There are several cheap bungalows near the entrance to the national park.
