Mv Vilai Samut

The dive safaris

We will be doing 3-4 days / nights liveaboard trips to the best dive sites at Similan Islands, Koh bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock.

The trips leave Tap Lamu pier 8pm after giving a boat briefing and having dinner. The next morning you wake up right at the first dive site. We do four dives each day and two dives on the last day before heading back to Khao Lak. We are back on the last day at 3pm. Click here for our schedule.

The boat

We are the proud owners of Mv Vilai Samut. She is a comfortable wooden boat, 26m long and 6m wide, specially designed for liveaboard diving.

She has 3 decks, we use the main deck and the upper deck during our trips, the lower deck is off limits and used as the engine room.

Starting at the back of the main deck you’ll find the dive platform and our spacious dive deck, where we also keep the compressor and emergency oxygen. The toilets and showers are here as well the inner hall way leading to the cabins, all individually air conditioned with opening windows. At the front of the main deck we have the sun deck and the only place where it is permitted to smoke.

We walk up to the upper deck and find our lounge and dinning area. This is where we’ll do the dive briefings, eat all of the delicious food and where we’re most likely to hang out between the dives. Even when the boat is full there’s always room here to stretch out and you won’t feel crowded.

Food

We’re extremely pleased with the food on board. During the trips you will be well fed and amazed by the wonderful dishes our chef  whips up in the kitchen.

There is a mini breakfast before the first dive, full breakfast after it, then lunch after dive 2, snacks after dive 3, and then dinner after dive 4.

We serve mainly European breakfasts, and Thai food for lunch and dinner. All meals are served as a buffet on upper deck. Vegetarian requirements are also catered for.

All meals are included in the price. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water, snacks, toast, fruits and biscuits are also provided free of charge.

Diving

All divers will be divided into groups of four divers, and each group will have their own dive guide.

Groups will be divided mainly depending on diving experience and air consumption. Couples and friend who want to dive together can obviously do so.

Dive Safety

Doing multiple dives several days in a row strains your body a lot more than going on a day trip doing only 2 dives. We take pride in keeping your safety in focus and to give you the best experience with as little risk as possible.

One of the biggest contributing factors to decompression sickness in a tropical climate is dehydration. For this reason we provide free drinking water and electrolytes throughout the whole trip. Each guest gets their own water bottle that they can refill whenever they want.

It’s important to remember that smoking cigarettes, sunbathing and drinking coffee/soft drinks/beer  gets you dehydrated so if you do this, drink more water!

A rule we have on the boat is that alcohol and diving don’t mix, so if you like a beer, drink it after the diving day is done whilst watching the sun set.

Safety At Sea

Going out to sea for several days in a row requires some extra safety measurements and it’s our priority to make it as safe as it possibly can be without restricting our trips and your experience.

All of our staff are medically trained in first aid and rescue, every season we have a scheduled day for our staff to practise rescue, first aid and evacuation procedures.

As safety equipment we have life jackets in all the cabins, life rafts, fire extinguishers, oxygen, first aid kit, radios and GPS onboard.

If needed to evacuate we have access to the fastest boat in the Similans, our own speedboat Alpha Girl.
