Can It Get Any Better ?

We return once again from another spectacular liveaboard trip around the Similan Islands, diving & snorkelling in some amazing conditions.

First day started off great with a zero current dive at West Of Eden, allowing us to play around as we wished among the boulders. Despite the early morning there was already loads of activity with blue fin – and giant trevally hunting all over the dive site. Towards the end of the dive our group staying a bit shallower got lucky and managed to see a massive great barracuda, a hawksbill turtle and a black tip reef shark all within the last 10 minutes of the dive.

Our snorkeller got lucky as well and bumped in to 2 turtles among the large rock formations.

With a start like that spirits were high, and with a sea that just got flatter and flatter by the hour we had a blast for the rest of the journey.

Pelagic Magic And A Lesson Learned

The 2nd day we dove Richelieu Rock for a couple of dives and it really put on a show ! A lot of the dives here we focus on the small stuff as this dive site is home to many special little critters.

But this day the small guys were in the shadow by 35 m visibility and huge schools of silver fish going crazy, trevallies, barracudas, mackerel and even large Wahoos hunting on the east side of the pinnacle. It’s not often we get that perfect combination that the current is enough to get the fishes active but light enough to make the dive easy so we can enjoy the show without blowing through our air supply.

During our ascent one of our dive guides learnt why it’s a bad idea to dive with a cold as he suffered a reverse block in his sinuses. Our guide ranks the dive as one of the absolute top ones at Richelieu Rock but the sinus problem as one of the worst experiences under water in his career.

It’s easy to get over confident as an experienced diver and continue to dive with slight discomfort while you have a cold, with the help of antihistamines and decongestants. However this is not a recommended practise over a longer period of time, and by doing so in this case it led to a very painful experience.

If you have a runny nose, make sure you can equalize with ease before diving, and if you experience discomfort during ascent or descent, it would be wise to rest from diving until your condition improves. Easiest way to avoid a problem like this is to stay dry between the dives and take it easy with the air condition at night and of course have adequate thermal protection during your dives !

Flat As A Pancake And New Advanced Divers!

Since Richelieu Rock is in the middle of the ocean with we’re always under the mercy of the weather if we can go there or not. On this day it looked like there been an oil spill as the wind completely died down and left the sea totally flat. If a fish farted 500 meters from the boat we saw the bubbles brake the surface. It stayed like that at the rest of the trip and heading back to main land we thought back on some of the trips earlier in the season with stormy seas and it’s amazing how much it can change over such a short period of time.

Congratulations to our 4 new Advanced Divers that did their course on board, Joe, Nicole, Max and Romina , well done and welcome to the 30m club !

We saw some familiar faces this trip as Ola and Mattias from last season joined us again. Last season they had one of the best dives on record at Koh Bon with 4 Manta Rays cruising around us for an hour, the Manta’s failed to show up this trip unfortunately but the diving held top class throughout the trip and with 3 different species of shark sightings, 30 m+ viz and very little current one can’t complain.

Thank you all that joined the trip, hope you enjoyed your stay on board and hope to see you again !

Regards,

Fantastic Conditions And Visits From The Big Guys!

The month of January was fantastic for diving and snorkelling throughout the area, with really calm seas and lots of plankton and nutrients in the water to attract some large marine life to our dive sites around the Similan Islands. Koh Bon has been popular lately with regular visits from the majestic Manta Rays, showing up on several of our liveaboard trips and the locally rare Whale Shark has been sighted several times in the area, especially around Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock.

Many have asked how much the visibility is affected by this and yes some dive sites will have reduced visibility due to the large particles in the water. Reduced visibility on the outer islands ,Similans, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai, very rarely go under 15-20 meters since this is what we refer to as reduced viz around here. On our clear days the visibility can be stunning, 30-40 meters but if you want to encounter our larger visitors you have a much higher chance on our plankton rich days since this is what the big guys eat.

Close to land on our local wrecks the viz has been great ! Some days we’ve been able to see the whole of Bonsung Wreck from the surface ! It lays on the bottom at 19 meters, and viz around 10 meters is normal here. The super clear days at the wreck is a dive above most in the area with enormous amounts of schooling barracudas and snappers. Even in bad viz you can find so much stuff here it’s always worth a visit!

Liveaboard Exploring Surin Islands

Our trip schedule is always preliminary and due to weather conditions, customer needs and crowds we’re able to alter it to make the diving as safe and as enjoyable as possible. Some of the last liveaboards we’ve been exploring the Surin Islands mostly due to crowds at the more known dive sites.

This has led us to some fantastic dives and exploratory experiences where we’ve encountered different species of coral, fish and some rare finds that we normally don’t see on our ordinary schedule. Monster sized Spiny Lobsters has been frequent on every there so far. These dives have been highly appreciated among both our guest and staff to be able to jump in the water with no other divers there and also with the feeling that you don’t know really what to expect.

We always strive to make the most out of your diving and snorkelling experience with us, being flexible during our trips gives us and you the opportunity to encounter our marine world in the best possible way .

Thank you all for that joined us in January hope to see you on board again ! For you guys thats looking into if its worth heading over here for a Liquid Adventure, enjoy these pictures while you decide.

Christmas and New Year

The hurricane we’re talking about is the sudden influx of people visiting Khao Lak during the holidays Christmas and New Year. Everyone has been working like crazy the last couple of weeks to make sure all our guests can do diving and snorkelling in the Similan Islands.

Our liveaboard has been running back to back trips, speedboat going out full pretty much everyday and longtail trips been run several times per week to our local wreck, Bonsung. We’d like thank all our staff for putting their heads down and worked through all the craziness and a big thank you to all of you that went out on the boats with us during the holidays ! Hope you had a great time during your stay here and that the new year’s been brilliant so far.

We’d like to welcome the master of disaster, our company director/owner Joakim back from the land of sand. His arrival was the starting point of boats going full every day so he got thrown right into the middle of the circus.

He’s been out on a couple of well deserved trips on the liveaboard recently and of course have already scored a couple of amazing dives. Top one so far is a night dive at West of Eden at Similan Island #7, with a massive Marbled Stingray feeding amongst the sand and tubble. Our main tourleader Linus had a trip off and once again missed the ray that’s still on his “hoping to see one day” -list, that’ll teach him to take trips off !

“Lake” Andaman Sea Season

Now we’re looking forward to diving in January and February which usually has the absolute best conditions for diving with the Andaman Sea laying as still as a fresh water lake, even 60 km out at sea !

Around these months are also one of the best times to witness our majestic Manta Rays that visits Koh Bon Island.

Every season is different in when and how long the rays makes and appearance, so far they’ve been spotted on most dive sites, but we’ve been unfortunate and been at the wrong place every time they’ve been flying by. We’re still waiting for one of those unreal dives when they hang around us for the whole dive and putting on their spectacular underwater acrobatics show, we have our hopes up for the next couple of trips !

The full moon has just passed which means the water is teaming with nutrients, hopefully attracting these pelagic giants closer to the islands where we dive.

Upcoming Trips

There is still available spaces on our trips in the middle of January, the next one going out the 14th of January.

We wish you all the best for the new year and a big thanks to everyone that has been working and diving / snorkelling with us !

Regards,

High Season Conditions Almost The Whole journey

In comparison to our last liveaboard trip around the Similan Islands, this trip was a walk in the park as far as the conditions go. The currents that made the diving challenging during the last trip was completely gone and the sea laid flat for most part of the trip.

We started again at West Of Eden, moving up to Christmas Point for the 2nd dive and finishing our day at Koh Bon for the 3rd and Koh Tachai for our night dive. Fantastic diving throughout the day, especially the night dive at Koh Tachai Reef where our guests had barracuda visit the whole dive, giant lobsters and a surprise visit by a large Jenkins Stingray half way through the dive. One of our guests, Gaute Jaeger, caught the sighting on video and we’ll be uploading it shortly.

Richelieu Rock Delivers Again !

Last trip we couldn’t make it to Richelieu Rock due to the weather but this trip it was no problem reaching the dive site in the middle of the ocean. Our tourleader Linus was extremely happy to be able to make his first dive of the season there as he’s been crippled by a bad back on the first couple of trips.

With finds like ornate ghost pipe fish, tigertail seahorses and cuttlefish on the first dive we were stoked to be able to do a 2nd dive there as well with even more special sightings.

We also dived Koh Tachai Pinnacle for the first time this season at it was lovely. We had currents but they were mild considering the pinnacle sometimes have ripping currents that won’t let you leave the descent line.

The corals are looking amazing, no shark sightings but the site was teaming with life and action from all the pelagic fish species that gets attracted by the currents. We also found a Comet Fish which is a spectacular little fish and hard to spot since it prefers deeper waters and usually lives under ledges and in crevices.

Amazing Bonsung

We hit a storm during, or rather the storm hit us on our last night just outside Koh Tachai, so instead of going for Koh Bon on the last day we decided to head closer to main land for calmer seas and do our last 2 dives at the Bonsung Wreck.

Once again our guests was overwhelmed by the fish soup that is the Bonsung Wreck and the first dive was mostly spent playing with the giant schools of juvenile barracudas and snappers that hovers above and around the wreck. This along with lots of macro sightings such as varieties of nudibranchs, juvenile lionfish, boxfish , sweetlips and angel fish made for two great dives at the end of the trip.

We would like to congratulate Victor for finishing his PADI Advanced course and also the danish duo Thomas and Jonas for finishing their PADI Open Water course during the trip. Great job guys and good choice in where to start your diving career !

Thanks to all our guests and agent dive leaders that joined the trip, great atmosphere on the boat !

Liquid Regards,

Linus – Tour Leader

Rock n’ Roll Trip

After an unusually calm start of the season at the Similan Islands we experienced our first trip with more “off-season” weather. We spent the first day around the Similan Islands, diving West Of Eden, Christmas Point, Breakfast Bend and Snapper Alley with the sea limiting our travel possibilities.

The sea was rough with strong winds from the north-east and big swell coming from the north-west making it very hard to find sheltered dive sites but we managed to get in some really good diving. First dive was our Similan favourite West Of Eden, although the dive we did was on a rare day when the current runs north to south, so we used the big boulders as shelter and wasn’t able to reach some of the deeper parts. The current brought a lot of activity and we spotted hunting trevallies, mackerel and some really big dogtooth tuna in the shallows amongst the rocks.

Christmas Point offered us the strongest currents so far this season, and we had to do a well controlled descent to find shelter behind the massive boulders. Once on the sheltered side of the site we had a really nice dive although the dive was cut short by the challenging conditions.

Since the currents was running wild that day we decided to do a drift dive for our 3rd dive of the day at Breakfast Bend. We jumped in at the north side of the reef and travelled pretty much the whole side of the island during an extremely pleasant drift dive that fitted all experience levels. A much better choice to enjoy the current rather than fighting it.

2nd Day, Full Day at Koh Bon

In the early morning hours on the 2nd day we headed up to Koh Bon to start our diving there. After a stunning first dive, with almost no current due to slack tide and lots of fish activity we decided to do a full day at Koh Bon. Especially since the bay offered us perfect shelter and we could enjoy snorkelling between the dives rather than rolling around in the rough sea.

We dove the Ridge twice and on the 3rd dive we headed a bit further north and dived the reef. Malin, one of our instructors, had a Liquid sighting record with no less than 7 octopus at the reef ! We’re lucky that we have plenty of day octopi here and we can watch them as they change colour and texture even in the day time.

We did the night dive in the bay and saw some romance between yet another pair of octopi.

Congratulations to Sam & Andy for finishing their PADI Advanced Open Water Course with instructor Malin with this dive !

Last Day At The Wonderful Wreck

After a nice evening of the whole boat sitting in front of the boat and playing mysterious dice games from Peru ( Perudo, ask Justin Harris for the rules ) we headed to the Bonsung Wreck for our last two dives. Once again the visibility was above the norm and the wreck was just teaming with life. Except for tons of schools, honeycomb morays and nudibranchs we spotted 4 cuttlefish mating outside the wreck on the sandy bottom.

Yet another perfect finish to a liveaboard trip that was absolutely wonderful, thanks to everyone that joined us you were truly an entertaining mix of people !

Best Regards,

Linus and the Liquid Team

Fantastic Diving And Another Surprise Visitor

We just had 3 fantastic diving days onboard our liveaboard the M.V Vilai Samut. We started the trip once again with West of Eden due to a supply drop to the national park, and the conditions and sightings were great ! We now have 3 confirmed ribbon eels on this site and a frog fish which is like christmas for any diver looking for some special marine life.

After a great dive at Koh Bon with octopuses, moray eels, funky nudibranchs ( flabellinas ) and a napoleon wrasee we headed for Koh Tachai. On our way to the island, pretty much in the same location and time where we had the whale visiting us on the last trip, a medium sized pod of dolphins appeared and jumped around the boat to everyones great pleasure ! So far the ocean seems richer than the last couple of seasons and dolphins are always a welcome bonus to any journey !

Amazing Richelieu Rock x 3 !

On the 2nd day we headed up for a couple of dives at Richelieu Rock. On the first day we had quite strong winds and choppy seas so Richelieu looked like it was going to be a little bit rough since the dive site is completely unsheltered from the elements. Our tourleader Linus woke up early to catch the sunrise and to check with the boat crew that all was ok for our upcoming dives. Sipping a much needed cup of coffee at 6 am we were pleasantly surprised to see the wind had dropped and the ocean had calmed down during the night.

After the first dive the boat was filled with positive energy and everyone chatting about what they’ve seen during the dive. With close to 30m visibility and little to no current we ended up doing 3 dives total at amazing Richelieu Rock, every dive with different sightings and finds among the coral and crevices.

Sunset Cruise To Surin Islands And More Pelagic Action

After Richelieu the Captain advised us to head to the Surin Islands rather than Koh Bon for our night dive due to an oncoming storm forming south from our location. A couple of hundred meters from the dive site we saw hundreds of birds diving into the water attacking a large bait ball.

Bait balls are formed when predatory fish manage to squeeze a large school of bait fish together near the surface and the bait fish form a ball to protect themselves against the constant attacks. The sea birds spot this from the air and join in the hunt. After watching the action from the boat we wanted to get in the water to see the action while snorkeling. We did a couple of attempts and jumped off the boat as close as we could get but the bait fish got spooked and moved rapidly away from us.

It was definitely worth a try as seeing this is as it’s an once in a lifetime experience to watch it underwater and we will try again, next time with fine tuned technique to get closer to the action.

We arrived at Surin Island just in time for a stunning sunset followed by a night dive with barracuda sightings and loads of little critters to be found amongst the coral.

Last Day, Wreck Mania

The last day of diving we headed for our local wrecks again as this was much appreciated on our last voyage. The Bonsung Wreck was again the more popular of the wrecks, with a bit better visibility than the Prem Chai Wreck but both wrecks are always worth a visit !

We do have half day trips to both these sites and it’s a perfect dive day if you’ve already seen the Similans or are more interested in the smaller stuff in the ocean!

We would also like to congratulate Mattias upon finishing his PADI Rescue Course during the trip, well done mate and we look forward to starting your DiveMaster course with us in the upcoming weeks !

Thanks to all our guests on the trip, it was a true pleasure to have you onboard and hope to see you again in the future for more great diving !

Kind Regards,

Linus and the Liquid Team

3 Days and 3 Nights in the Similan Islands

Our maiden voyage just got back from the Similan Islands and we had a proper adventure !

We started the journey with a dive on West of Eden and we were happy to find the dive site has flourished during the low-season. The sea temperature has been low for the monsoon period and the corals and sea fans look absolutely stunning ! There where lots of trevallies, mackerel and tuna hunting bait fish among the boulders and we also found a ribbon eel hiding amongst the whip coral.

Second dive was at North Point but most of our divers didn’t see much of the site due to a strong current that took us some 500 meters across the nearby reef. So our boulder dive turned into a comfortable drift dive where the highlights was a school of chevron barracuda, turtles and a napoleon wrasse !

Our night dive was conducted at the south end of island #9, with little critters such as the blue dragon (flabellina nudibranch) and a bunch of crustaceans. Linus, our tourleader, was very happy to find healthy looking coral bummies in very shallow water, where last season there was none.

Whale Snorkelling at Koh Tachai !

The 2nd day we dove Koh Bon twice during the day and it was pretty much as good as it gets, except for no manta sightings. First dive we jumped in north-west of the ridge and with a down swell from the tidal change and currents going here and there most of our divers drifted north, half way along the island! A couple of groups fought the current to go the west ridge and it was definitely worth it ! 30m visibility and loads of mid-water activity meant that we gladly dived the ridge again so the whole boat could enjoy the beauty of the west ridge for our 2nd dive.

On our way to Koh Tachai later that evening we spotted a whale from the surface. With a lot of instructors on board, they’re used to taking their own initiative and two of them jumped of the boat as soon as we were close to the whale ! Within seconds the whale breached next to them and they where able to watch it and film it ! Congratulations Noorni and Jacki, hopefully we get more opportunities during the season.

On the last day we dove the Bonsung Wreck in a proper fish soup with really good visibility, around 15m and later that day the Prem Chai wreck which also had plenty of fish but a little less “viz”.

We really enjoyed the trip, we’re so happy to be out on our liveaboard the M.V Vilai Samut again, and thanks to all our guests that joined us during the trip, it was a true pleasure to have you onboard and hope to see you again out at the Similans !

We gather in the shop around 7 pm and head towards the Tap Lamu pier, located 15 minutes car ride from Khao Lak.

When we arrive on the boat we allocate our guests to their cabins, set up our equipment and enjoy our first buffét dinner on board while we learn about the trip and the boat through a briefing from the tour leader.

We’ll show you where everything is and more importantly where to get coffee. Also this is a perfect time to check our dive books with maps of the dive sites we’ll visit and what marine life you can expect to encounter during the journey.

The boat starts heading out to the Similan Islands after a nice dinner with some fireworks to scare away any evil spirits that might have come on board while the boat was moored up at the pier according to Thai-tradition.

The journey takes approx. 4-5 hours while you sleep comfortably in our air conditioned cabins. We offer sea sickness pills to everyone even if you usually don’t have an issue with this. The conditions are usually calm but the pill will help you sleep the first night as you might not be used on sleeping on a boat.

Day 1- Wake Up In Paradise

We do our wake up call at 6.30 the first morning, enjoy a light breakfast together with our dive safety briefing and our first dive site briefing.

Dive 1 – 7.30 : Breakfast Bend, east side of Island #9

This sloping reef site is ideal to start the trip with. The reef displays most of the common reef fish we offer, together with a high chance of encountering sea turtles and sea snakes. The reef ends at 16-18 m , deeper on the outskirts of the reef is a sandy slope with some boulders which have beautiful seafans, barrel sponges and soft corals groving. Check the sand for ribbon and garden eels, kuhl’s stingray, peacock mantis shrimp and a vide variety of gobies.

After the first dive we enjoy a big buffét style breakfast with eggs, sausage, bacon, ham, salad and soup while we log our first dive.

Dive 2 – 10.30-11.00 Christmas Point / North Point , West Side Of Island # 9

We travel to the west side of Island # 9 to do our 2nd dive, which will be either Christmas Point or North Point depending on conditions. These dive site demonstrates why Similan Islands are so highly ranked among divers with some amazing topography.

These sites consists of giant boulders which form fantastic formations with arch ways, swim throughs and canyon to enjoy during the dive. We always dive these sites differently depending on the current. The sites are massive so there’s never a problem in finding shelter and we still have a large area to explore.

After the 2nd dive we serve a lunch buffét and start heading north towards Koh Bon island.

Dive 3 – 14.30-15, Koh Bon West Ridge

3rd dive of the day we’ll do at the West Ridge on Koh Bon Island. Koh Bon is famous for being a cleaning station for the massive Manta Rays. We can never guarantee a sighting but Koh Bon is definately the best place in Thailand to look for them. Even if the Mantas would be absent this dive site is beautiful with a limestone wall and ridge covered in soft corals with large moray eels and different kinds of shrimp living in the cracks. The current can sometimes be quite strong on the ridge but this attracts a large number of pelagic fish species which feeds along the ridge in the current.

After the 3rd dive we serve a light snack and sit back and enjoy the ride up to Koh Tachai Island where we’ll do our first night/ sunset dive.

Dive 4 – 18-19.00, Koh Tachai Reef

Depending on the conditions you can choose to do either a sunset or a night dive. We always recommend the night dive since this is the time you can find creatures you normally won’t see so much during the day dive, like funky anemone hermit crabs, sponge crabs, lobsters and mating cuttlefish / octopi.

We’ll do the dive shallow on the reef and mostly look for the small critters, although sometimes we get visits from large barracudas which use our dive lights as aid for hunting.

After the 4th dive we serve dinner, buffét style of course with a mix of Thai and western cooking.

Day 2- Richelieu Mania

Dive 5 & 6, Richelieu Rock

During the early hours in the morning we head up to Richelieu Rock to do our 2 morning dives there. This dive site is a pinnacle in the middle of the ocean and works as a magnet for all marine life in the area. Our most famous dive site and highly ranked among divers world wide, and rightly so. The rock is covered in soft corals and sea fans, and with thousands of cracks for all sorts of marine life to live in such as, sea horses, ghost pipe fish, harlequin shrimps and large number of different moray species.

This site usually has a school of chevron barracudas and snappers patrolling the rock, that and the possibility to encounter our largest visitors, the Mantas and the occasional Whale Shark makes this one of the most exciting and diverse dive sites of the whole trip.

After the first dive we’ll have our big breakfast and after the 2nd dive we enjoy our buffét lunch.

Dive 7 – 14.30-15.00 , Koh Tachai Pinnacle.

We head south again after our dives at Richelieu Rock, towards Koh Tachai island again. Koh Tachai Pinnacle or 3rd dive of the dive lies 300 m. south of the island.

The pinnacle starts at 12m and can have some stronger currents. Fortunately we use the mooring line for descent for easy access to the site and shelter from any current. This dive site comes alive more and more the stronger the currents get and can be an amazing adventure dive with good pelagic action.

It consists of hundreds of boulders around the main pinnacle, with large seafans and coral gardens. If you get lucky and get that 30m+ visibility while you dive here it’s a beautiful scenery.

After a light snack on board after the dive, we have the possibility to take our dinghy in to Koh Tachai Island to enjoy some beach time. This is the most beautiful beach we have in the area.

We’ll bring frisbees and a football for anyone who feels like being active, but it works great just relaxing on this usually deserted paradise beach with bright white sand and azur ocean.

After the beach hang out we start heading south to Koh Bon and our night dive.

Dive 8 – 19.30 Koh Bon bay

If you like critters you don’t want to miss out on this dive ! Last season we found more weird creatures here, baffeling our dive guides, than any other site. Highlights include decorated spider crabs, abalones, decorated hermit crabs and nudibranchs/slugs. Also here we get the occasional visit from hunting barracudas.

After the night dive we enjoy another delicious dinner and discuss what we’ve seen so far and maybe share a Singha or two

Day 3 – The Adventure Ends With A Wreck

Dive 9 – 07.00 Koh Bon Ridge / Pinnacle

We start with an early morning dive on our last day of the trip. We either do Koh Bon Ridge again or the pinnacle some 300m to the west of the island depending on conditions and current Manta gossip.

The ridge is always worth a 2nd dive since the conditions change daily, especially at the tip of the ridge where the currents can be a bit stronger. The currents brings in nutrients and this also brings more activity among the pelagics.

The pinnacle is a stunning dive site, limestone formation covered in yellow soft corals, but needs perfect conditions to be worth diving since the top of the rock starts at 16m. Also this site is rather small so if other boats already jumped in it’s usually not worth going as we’re here to see fish not bubbles !

After the dive we have breakfast and our cook usually gives us an extra treat for the last breakfast on board in the form of fruity pancakes along with the normal continental breakfast.

Dive 10 – 12.00 Bonsung Wreck

Last dive of the trip really stands out and is one of the highest ranked dive sites among guides in the area along with Richelieu Rock. The Bonsung Wreck used to be a tin dredger, scooping sand from the bottom to filter it for precious metals, before it sank some 30 years ago.

The wreck itself doesn’t resemble much of a ship or anything but it’s absolutely covered with marine life. On top of the wreck there’s a proper “fish soup” of schooling snappers, juvenile barracudas and jacks, and on the wreck itself you’ll find white eyed and honeycomb morays, different kinds of nudibranchs, lots of scorpion fish and it’s common to find cuttlefish and octopus in the sand around the wreck. This is also one of the few places we can spot the legendary stone fish, nominated as the ugliest fish in the sea.

The visibility is lower here than the rest of the sites with an average of about 10m but it makes up for it with the amount of life it holds.

When we come up from the last dive our staff will start cleaning the equipment, if you got your own gear there’s time to rinse it and hang it up to dry before we arrive to the main land again.

On the journey home we’ll have a delicious pasta lunch and maybe a beer or two while we reminisce about our dive adventure. This is the best time to get advice on any additional diving you want to do around Khao Lak and the Similans and also what other activities there are to do around here.

We get back to the pier approximately 3.30 PM where our taxis will be waiting for us to take you back to the dive shop or the hotel of your choice in Khao Lak or Phuket.

If you have any questions about the trip, the diving, the boat or the Khao Lak area in general, send us an e-mail and we’ll be more than happy to help you.

Regards

Linus Nylund ( Tour Operator) and the Liquid Team

The Similan National Park has officially opened !

On the 1st of November the Similan National Park opened officially for tourism.

We’ve chartered our Speedboat to a neighbouring company and we’ve had great reports from the diving and snorkelling at the Similan Islands. Corals have started to grow back after the bleaching they had during low-season 2010. We’re very happy to here this since the coral reef is essential to keep the amazing diversity of marine life we have at the Similan Islands.

The first Manta Ray of the season has been spotted at Koh Bon, different species of sharks have been spotted on most dive sites, even a Whale Shark have been sighted at Koh Tachai Pinnacle !

Whale Shark sightings are extremely rare in our waters and we’re super happy to hear that at least one has been spotted already. It is the “krill season ” right now so hopefully a couple more make their impressive appearance known on more dive sites.

Liquid dives the Bonsung Wreck

A couple of days ago Liquid Adventure went out to our local wreck site, the Bonsung Wreck and we had some great diving. 15 m+ visibility, the ocean like a lake and proper fish soup at the dive site ment very happy customers and dive masters We’ve spotted huge schools of juvenile barracudas, cuttlefish, octopus, stone fish and some really funky nudis. We’re waiting on O-rings at the moment for our camera housing so unfortunately we can’t treat you to pictures of our dives.

New Special Promotion and Live aboard departure

We have a new special promotion lasting until the 1st of December were we offer 5% discount on any bookings via our website, and a 10% discount for bookings of 3 guests or more.

We have a full chartered liveaboard trip going out the 8th of November together with Dive Asia Now and we can’t wait to go out on a dive safari exploring the highlights of the Andaman Sea together with fellow instructors !

Happy Diving to you all and remember , just keep swimming.. just keep swimming

Best Wishes the Liquid Team

High Season is just around the corner!

With less than two weeks to go until the Similan Islands National Park officially opens we’re working hard to get the last maintenance work finished. We welcome Keith Angles, our operational manager and local rock star, back and he has already cleaned out any cobwebs that formed during the low-season.

We’ve just started our final promotion for low-season bookings, book early and save money!

You’ll receive a 10% discount on any trip and course bookings, the offer last until the 1st of November, the day that the national park officially opens.

Liveaboard schedule update, new trips during christmas !

We’ve updated our liveaboard schedule.

There are new trips available around Christmas time , VS14 and VS15, 3D/3N trips between the 18th and the 25th of December. We can’t think of a better way to spend the holidays than diving the Similans, Koh Bon, Koh Tachai and Richelieu Rock, possibly with Manta Rays, whilst having a jolly good time on board M.V Vilai Samut!

ODEX Dive Show

Joakim has come over for a quick R&R from the desert. He went down to Brisbane in Australia to attend the ODEX dive show to represent Liquid Adventure and promote our liveaboard trips. Well met any future customers that saw him down there !

We had a lucky draw at the ODEX show as well and we’ll e-mail the winners, congratulations for you 5 lucky people that won a 3D/3N liveaboard trip !

He had time to visit Khao Lak as well for a few days and we all enjoyed a G&T or two at the Happy Snapper while the band was rocking it on stage.

Diving In The Similans

The national park isn’t officially open yet but some operators have already started going out to scout out the diving. We don’t agree with diving there before the park is open, any rest we can give the dive sites is good. Although we concur with that a few operators can go out and can start cleaning some sites from any rubbish that’s been gathered in the low-season.

We’ve received good reports from the dive sites and fantastic animal encounters including Manta Ray spotting at Koh Bon and white tip reef sharks at the Similans !

Have fun and hope too see you in the Similan Islands !
